چکیده

correspond in every way to the 'typical' form; they differ, however, in their action on some of the other carbohydrates. Much controversy has arisen as to the part played by B. granulosis in the aetiology of trachoma; moreover, other microorganisms have been isolated and put forward as aetiological factors. Again, various authors have maintained that the condition is due to a virus, to diet deficiency and lastly that it is an expression of allergy. With these views, however, this paper is not concerned. In our introductory remarks it was clearly indicated that considerable divergence existed in the results of those authors who had carried out work along lines similar to that of Noguchi and our investigation was undertaken merely to ascertain whether B. granulosis was present or not in cases of trachoma occurring in Glasgow. We suggest that some of the discrepancies in the results obtained by various workers have been due to their not having allowed sufficient time for growth to have progressed to the extent of producing visible 'colonies' before pronouncing that the microorganism in question was not present in the material examined. Again, some of these investigators may not have been conversant with the inhibiting action of cocaine on the growth of B. granulosis. Lastly, the importance of immediate inoculation of the media, the keeping of the inoculated plates at room temperature and of maintaining a sufficiently moist surface should be emphasised.

Background :There is not any data available about the effect of high bar pressure condition on intracranial pressure. In this study, the effect of diving on the optic nerve and sheath diameters as non-invasive markers of intracranial pressure has been investigated.   Methods : Twenty professional male divers from twenty one volunteers were chosen for this cross-sectional study. The preventive role of aqueous extract of Coriander on optic nerve lesion in diabetic balb/c mice

Coriandrum sativum (coriander) has been documented as a traditional treatment of diabetes. On the base of this belief and as the studies about whether coriander reduces hyperglycemia in diabetic mice is little known are lacking, we decided to evaluate the effect of Aqueous Extract seed of Coriander on optic nerve in Balb/c Diabetic Mouse. In the present study, the beta cells of pancreas of 16 b...

P129: Use of Stem Cells to Regenerate Degenerative Optic Nerve

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to convert to different types of cells and after dividing, they can produce their own cells or other cells. Axons of the retinal ganglion cells, from the optic nerve. These cells lose the ability to regenerate themselves before birth. Optic nerve degeneration can result from various causes including increased intraocular pressure, comp...

Magnetic resonance imaging of feline eye

The purpose of this study was to investigate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the normal feline eyeand optic nerves using T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. A total of 6 healthy female domestic short haircats age 2-2.5 years and weighing 3.2 ± 0.4 kg were selected. Magnetic resonance imaging data werecollected using GEMSOW (Philips) at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 T. Dorsal, sagittal, a...

Localization of Epidermal-Type Fatty Acid Binding Protein (E-FABP) in Degeneration and Regeneration of Sciatic Nerve after Crush Injury in Mouse

Purpose:The regeneration of axon and myelin sheet after crush injury of peripheral nerves involves interaction of several types of cells, including Schwann cells, monocyte, macrophage and fibroblast. Among them, haematogenous macrophages invading into the peripheral nervous systein play a major role in myelin uptake during Wallerian degeneration. Materials and Methods: In this study 35 C57/BL6 ...
